[from our own correspondents.] clevedon. The newly-elected members of 'the Wairoa Road Board met on Saturday. Mr. J. R. McKenzie was elected chairman for the ensuing year. A" ballot was taken for two members to retire next year, the choice falling on Messrs. J. R. McKenzie and James McConnichie. .The. Road Board have a good amount of work tc supervise this year, the most important being the replacing of the bridge, that was washed away in January. A tender has been practically accepted for ; a ferro-concrete erection to cost £580. " * ;■ ■: ,',.;■ The monthly meeting' of the Clevedon Farmers' Union took place on Saturday, Mr. J. R. McKenzie (president) being in the chair. The union has decided to take steps to procure a railway from the main line to connect this district, a strong committee being formed. ;• It, is considered that it would be one of the best-paying lines in New Zealand. J". "_■ The Clevedon Cricket Club has concluded a very successful season. : - : ,The lawn tennis club is getting the lawns renovated for nest season. The local hotel has changed hands, Mr. Abbott having disposed of his interest to Mr. Luks. Mr. Abbott .will be much .missed in athletic circle*. \>
