BAND OP HOPE UNION. THE ANNUAL MEETING. The annual ■; meeting of the Band of Hope Union, held at Buchanan's Cafe, KarangaI ,hape Eoad, last evening, was attended by a largo number of members. Mr. C. G. Hill occupied the chair. .. A . report dealing (with .'the various operations of the year was read by the secretary. ; Reference was made to the annual gathering in June last, which it "was stated resulted in a profit of. £19. jOthcr subjects in the report were the annual musical, and elocutionary, contests, - the Swonk of the local societies, the progress ma.de .by the Canterbury Band of. Hope Union. The report concluded with some extract, ,from the pen of Geo.: R. Sims.; The ' treasurer's balance-sheet, which was . described Tas ' favourable - and encouraging, was read by Mr.; G. Plummer. Tho report ;and balance-sheet were adopted after several .members had spoken favourably of the work dono, and hopefully of "the prospects J for .the ; incoming ; year. The- progress and future of the society (were, discussed, together with the arrangements for the anniversary celebrations on May 24. After the meeting those present sat down to supper.
