PITT-STREET METHODIST CHURCH. The forty-eight anniversary of tho Pittstreet Methodist Sunday-school was celebrated " yesterday. There wero largo congregations, especially in the evening, when the church was crowded available scat being occupied. The special feature of the services was the singing of the scholars. The choir and side galleries were filled with the children, and'their voices blended harmoniously. Mr. 11. E. Light T.G.0., was conductor, and. was ;at the close congratulated on the success' of his training effort... Mr J P Hooton presided at tho organ, and Miss Nellie Peak (Assoc. Mus.) was leader of the orchestra. At the morning service the Rev. W. C- Oliver delivered an eloquent sermon on ' The Bible. in the afternoon the Rev. A. JN- Scotter, 8.A., interested the children with a practical address on "Flowers, Fruit, and Seeds, lho minister of the church, the Rev. J. A. Luxford, conducted the evening service, delivering a timely sermon on " Tho Relationship of Children to tho Church." Tho unsettled weather made a slight difference to th© usual attendance in tho morning, but did not affect the other services. Tho festival will close on Wednesday, when the annual soirco and: public meeting will bo held. „ : . ' : . SALVATION ARMY. Tho services conducted by Commissioner Cadman in the Salvation Army Barracks, Albert-street, yesterday were very well attended. Enthusiastic . addresses were, delivered by the Commissioner, who held the people deeply interested in tho reminiscences of his life. Numbers in each meeting came, to the front and professed conversion. Brigadier Veal (the Commissioner's private secretary) sang evangelistic songs during tho day, which helped the meetings to a successful issue. Brigadier Albiston (the provincial commander), and Adjutant Gunn (the divisional officer), also took part. Tho Commissioner is well pleased with the 10sult of his visit to Auckland. Owing to the beat from Sydney being late Commissioner McKie and his staff were unable to be prosent. 1 THE CENTRAL MISSION. Mr. Harold Here us preached at tho Al-bert-street Hall yesterday forenoon, taking as his subject " Tho One. Family." The missioner preached again in the evening,, the service held in His Majesty's Theatre. " Cain' was the character sketch dwelt on. The orchestra played " Intermezzo" (Insacagni) and, "Dawn" (Marat), whilst Mr. A. -19. Whiter gave v cello solo. The quartette party, by their splendid singing,' contributed materially tothe effectiveness of a hearty evangelistic service. . THE PEOPLE'S MISSION. At the Opera House yesterday the services of the People's Mission were well attended. In tho evening some difficulty was experienced in accommodating the people. The subject of the evening's discourse was " Christ's Atonement," taken from Isaiah, liii. A _ service of , song was \ interspersed with a vocal item by Mr. W. Aspinall. and two contributions from the quartette party. An appeal was made on bohalf of the 15 millions of distressed Chinese, 1 for whom the Christian Churches are soli-' citing funds. AUCKLAND METHODIST MISSION. Successful meetings wore held in connection with the Auckland Methodist Mission yesterday in Newton and Freeman's Bay. Tho Rev. James Wilson conducted the services in the Orange Hall at eleven a.m., administering the sacrament of th© Lord's Supper, and lie. also conducted an evangelistic servico in the Foresters' Hall.- At Freeman's Bay Messrs. S. Parker and E. Hutson officiated. At the rooms of the Auckland Theosophical Society, Mutual Lifo Buildings, last, evening, Mr. S. Stuart lectured on ' The History of Humanity." Tho lecture was exceedingly interesting, and the speaker ably dealt with this wide subject. Questions and an interesting discussion followed
