THE PAKURANGA HOUNDS.

THE. formal opening meet of the season has not yet taken place, as there are generally several meets prior to the piece de resistance of the hunting season, when it is understood the popular master of the hounds, Mr. If. Gorrie, will entertain the members and friends at his private residence some time in the beginning of June. Saturday was the second meet of the season, the hounds gathering at • Bailey's farm, Penrose, and working that and the adjoining properties between Panmure Road and Sylvia Park. There was a strong southerly wind blowing, interspersed with-cold showers, and sport was poor. Only one hare was raised, and that of such a diminutive and weakly character that she was almost immediately surrounded by the hounds and killed. As no other hares ! could be found, heads were turned for home shortly after four p.m. Bares are getting scarcer every year in the vicinity, and whether the weasels and ferrets are to blame it is difficult to say. Among those riding were Mrs. W. Bloomfieid on M.'LiBB, Miss Lloyd on Vagabond, Miss West on a bay, Miss Gorrie, jun., on Arawa,. Miss Kelly on a pony. Sir Robert- SinclairLockliart on Waiuku, Mr. Dalton, sen., on Te Aku. Mr. Bullock-Webster on Liberty, Messrs. Davis Bros.. Mr. Wallace on a well-bred chestnut, Mr. Ben Myers on Grey Momus. Mr. Donald Gorrie on a brown pony, and Mr. A. Selby (huntsman) on a bay. Amongst those driving were Mr. Muir Douglas, Mr.. V. Casey, and Mr. G. Crowther. The master was absent, being at present in the South.
