' Lord Auckland, who celebrated his 48th birthday a few weeks ago, is a cadet ■of the Edens of West Auckland, in Durham (now represented by Sir William ': Eden, seventh baronet), the first Lord Auckland, who was Secretary of State for Ireland, and also British' Ambasador in Paris, having been a younger son of the third baronet. His successor received an earldom in reward for a successful governor-generalship of Ireland, but the dignity expired with his death. Lord Auckland, whose father was xrord Arthur Hcrvey's predecessor, as Bishop of Bath and Wells, married Miss Sybil Hutton, and has two sons. There is, by the way, another barony in the Eden family, that of Henley. i The first % Lord Henley, a brother of the first Lord Auckland, was created an Irish peer in 1799. He married the co-heiress of the last Henley, Earl of Northington, and the family has exchanged the nam* of Eden for that of Henley, • ';v ;; -.•-.'-;:''
