MIDNIGHT MARRIAGE.

' ' ■' } : | : , Young Mr. Briston Draper is the chief ' j figure in this latest scandal. _ He is. the t\ son of the Lieutenant-Governor of Massachusetts, Mr. Ebenezer Draper, head of an old and extremely wealthy Bab family. For some time he has .been engaged to -. Miss Alice Marjorie Ray, a, playmate of his - childhood and an heiress of great social dis- ' tinction. Preparations for the marriage of the young couple were already far advanced, ■ ■■£< and ; a beautiful residence, which had been constructed specially for them, .beside: the •■-■ mansion of the Lieutenant-Governor, was ';'■ waiting to receive them after the honey-T';t moon. But while their friends were congratulat- , K ing them on; their ; approaching happiness, young Mr. Draper, who has just celebrated his twenty-fifth birthday, suddenly left ,; home and travelled to New York. There, after supper at Rector's Restaurant, he proceeded to a little church around the corner,' where he was married to Miss Queenie San- j ford, who has been recently appearing in | a subordinate role Wallace's Theatre.
