OUR CITY AND SUBURBAN SLUMS.
Sir, There is on© phase of this question which deserves (ho attention of our worthy 1 Mayor and city fathers. The slums of our > fair city are by no means confined to its congested spots. ' Let anyone walk along the residential streets of the city and suburbs and view the frontages of the houses ' abutting on the streets, and he will find slums ad nauseam. Wherever J a dwelling is occupied by the owner, the frontage is gener- , ally neat and tidy, but whenever a tenant is in occupation docks and rank weeds luxuriate liko unto a neglected cemetery, ; r \ making • the prospect* any thing but . pleasing. . These unsightly slums/should not be allowed to exist in our midst, and, if I may be permitted, I would strongly, urge on our ' - respected energetic Mayor, as. well as the suburban Mayors gild .city.. fathers- -ihe desirability - of coping ■with-** l this public nuisance by enacting a bylaw insisting on a * certain standard of common dccency ; and tidiness. Disgusted. , . "J" " ' ' S ''
