GOVERNMENT POULTRY FARM.
A SPLENDID season. . [by TELKGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] DcN'EDix, Thursday. A splendid season has been experienced at the Government Poultry Farm at Milton, and at present the manager has 2000 birds in his charge. The young birds are coming on vigorously, and will be ready to leave the farm in another fortnight. All of these are the progeny of " trapnested" hens, and this principle will be in use next season. The Potter and Hogan American systems. will also be employed, which will lead to tbe identification of those hens which do not lay a reasonable number of eggs each week. The laying hens will be dieted accordingly, and good food will not be wasted on the useless birds. It is confidently expected that the experiment will prove a success. The manager has now 50 pheasants in his charge, all of which are thriving, also 400 ducks and some swans. ■~,-.
