No on© thought the New South '] Wales Government might disapprove of the. site selected by the Federal Parlia- ' ment. It had never been suggested or intended that New South Wales should dietate where the site should be. As to Mr. Carruthers* threat as to withdrawing from ~-■ the federation, he did not think the people ,V% had any desire to look backward. Their ;v? desire to be the dominant power in the ■•';:s Southern seas would never be realised other than by unity. Having taken a step for- " ward in the direction of nationhood, they would not step back*
