WHANGAREI ITEMS.
[BY telegraph. CORRESPONDENT- '. * Whangarei, Wednesday. The installation of Mr. Harry Weaver as Mayor of Whangarei borough took place to-day. . The annual report, showed an income from all sources during the year of £4*20, expenditure amounting to £3181. The Mayor referred to correspondence in one of the papers condemning the action of the Council in the expenditure of. surplus money from the waterworks loan. This expenditure, however, was provided for by a section of the Municipal Corporations Act, and the action had been confirmed by two solicitors. The money had been applied to the construction of a concrete culvert in Maunu Road (£290); equipment to the fire brigade (£492). and fencing of the waterworks reserve (£B6).
