MEETINGS.
WOMEN'S CHRISTIAN TEMPERANCE UNION. A special • meeting of ' the.; Auckland branch of the Women's Christian Temperance Union was -hold : in the Central Mission Hall yesterday afternoon.' Thero ,was, a very good attendance. Mrs. Dcwar (president of. the body) was in "the chair, and after some pre-., liminary business ; had been got through, introduced Mr. / White, provincial organiser for the New Zealand Alliance, who outlined a plan of campaign, whereby the W.C.T.U. might act in; concert with the body he represented, so as secure the aim towards which each was-working. Mr. White's remarks were much applauded, and a vote of 'thanks was accorded him on the motion l of the chairwoman. A letter was road from' Mrs. "J. ■'' H. ! Wood, ';'naval secretary to the union in- Wellington, conveying; the thanks of the men of the Australasian squadron for the " comfort bags" which the ladies of the Auckland branch of the W.C.T.U. had forwarded; for transmission to the ;; bluejackets. It was resolved that a letter of condolence be sent to Mr. W. Richardson on the death of his wife, which occurred recently, and a cheque for three guineas \ as, a tangible proof of the union's sympathy in Ids affliction. COURT BIRKENHEAD, A.O.F. The fortnightly meeting of Court Birkenhead, No. 8386, of. the Ancient Order of Foresters, was held .in the Foresters' Hall la- night.- Bro. H. Nicholls, chief ranger, presided. Thero, was a good attendance of members, while several visiting brethren were present. r./The--''Foresters' , Fire":; extended to xho latter was acknowledged by the district chief ranger (Bro. A. E. Green slade) and Bros. W. M. Neumegen, P.D.C.R., J. MeEwin (Court Zcalandia), P. Weir (Courti' City of Auckland), W. U. Timewell, the. Rev. T. Evershed (Court Victoria, Devonport)) , and A. E. Jarman ; (Court Epunt, Petone). //After the business, /the, visitors were entertained by the members of Court Birkenhead, when items .were contributed by Bros. Neumegen,, sJarmanj W. Grant, Edgar Wallis, W. Macduff, J. Brook, and others.
