By Telegraph.—Pies* Association.—Copyright, (Received April 7. 5.38 p.m.)
London, April 6. The firm of Sir John Ami and Son has entered into a contract with the Egyptian Government to add 24ft to the height of the Assouan dam, on the Nile.
The estimated cost of the work is £1.500,000. It will greatly increase the. irrigible area. The raising of the dam was proposed two years ago, and the scheme postponed owing to two English scientists having put forward a new theory a.s to the strain from water pressure on dams which made the heightening of the Assouan dam appear a dangerous project.
