NATIONAL LEAGUE OF NEW ZEALAND.
FIRST MINIATURE RIFLE COM
PETITION
The sub-committee of the National League appointed for the purpose of encouraging miniature rifle shooting in New Zealand, consisting of Colonel White, Captain Murdoch, Messrs. E. or ton, F. Kollctt, and W. H. Hazard, have decided to open the first of a series of shooting competitions on April 8. The competitions will be divided into four classes, and are open to all members of the National League under the age of 21. Prizes in the shape of silver and bronze medals, etc., are offered, and it is expected that monthly competitions will bo held throughout the yea*Several gentlemen who are interested in training our youth in the art of using a riHe, and in thus rendering them efficient to take their part in the defence of their country, are endeavouring to institute miniature rile ranges in various centres, so that it is expected in a little while that competitions may become popular all through New Zealand. Already a considerable sum of money has been raised in Auckland for the encouragement of miniature rifle shooting, and considering that the whole cost to the competitor consists of a shilling subscription, which makes him a member of the National League, and jd per shot in his classfiring, there is every reason to hope that large numbers of our youths will avail themselves of the offered conditions, not only in the hope of winning prizes, but with the patriotic motive of making themselves capable of defending their country against any possible invasion.
