PUKEKOHE ITEMS.

[FROM OUR OWN' CORRESPONDENT.] The committee of the Pukekohe District High School met in the schoolhouse on the 27th tilt. A letter was received from the Board of Education re teacher's house, stating that the Board had applied for a further grant. Re closing school for teachers' instruction in agriculture* and nature study, a circular was received from the Board intimating that it had been arranged to keep open the High School portion, but that the primary department would be closed, as intimated in a previous circular. This arrangement was strongly criticised, and the question was asked, Why the Easter holidays were not. utilised, instead of curtailing the school days? Some children, it was stated, had been taken away and sent to private schools. It was decided to renew the application for tar and sand for footpaths around the school. At a meeting of the sub-committee appointed to carry out- the arrangements for court, exhibit in connection with the Auckland winter show favourable reports were received from outside districts, and it was decided to enter a court, in the name of the Franklin Agricultural Society. Dr. Beerio has now taken up his residence in Pukekohe, in premises lately occupied by Dr. Williams. The annual concert in connection with St. Andrew's Anglican Church was held in the Masonic Hall, Pukekohe, on Monday evening, when an exceedingly good programme was presented by Mr. Phillpot, of Auckland.
