NELSON LABOURERS' DISPUTE.
REFERENCE TO THE. ARBITRATION
COURT.
[BY TELEGRAPH. ASSOCIATION.]
Nelson, Thursday. The recommendation just filed by the Conciliation Board, in regard to the Labourers' Union demands, virtually retains the standard wage at 8s per day, but, as already stated, differentiates between 8s and 7s within and without 10 miles of the city radius. This differentiation seriously affects the Waimea County Council, which pays only on a basis of 7s a- day tliroughout. As the hands outside the radius are sure to ask for the same wages as those within it, the Council to-day decided to refer the matter to the Arbitration Court. The other employers, principally local bodies and contractors, will probably do likewise.
