usl ery . P lcasi .? and successful social was held last evening at the Colonial Sugar Refining Company works at Chelsea. There was a large gathering of tho employees their wives, and lady friends, who assembled, a the invitation of the company, to celebrate the opening of the spacious social hall and diningroom recently erected by the company. Mr W J Phil son, the manager of the company,' declared the hall open, and, in doing so, hoped the gathering that night, would bo the precursor of many similar gatherings. The music for Wins™™! was provided by the Hungarian Band. The following contributed items to the programme:-Mr. W. McLenahan (recitation), Miss Millar, Madame Chambers, Mr. Joseph Philson, Mr. Chas. Way During the evening light refreshments were handed round. After the musical programme bad concluded, the hall was cleared tor dancing, which the young folks thoroughly enjoyed. The social hall and diningroom, which is a large and commodious room, 46ft by 40ft, was handsomely decorated with bunting for the occasion/ There is also a large kitchen in connection, 14ffc by 12ft. It -is proposed to run a library in connection with the hall. Mr. F. Hariiden has been appointed attendant in charge.
