IMPORTATION OF VICTORIAN WHEAT.

KFI-'KCT ON DUNKDJN MARKET.

[BY TKLKGKAPH.—OWN CORRKSPOXDEXT.]

UiNhniN, I'ii'!sday. Tub arrival about ton day.? age of the first shipment of a. consignment o' Victorian wheat has hart a decided effect on the local wheat market. Farmers had boon talking about bis: prices here now that the new season's wheat is beginning to attract buyers attention, and 5- 6,1 a bushel on the trucks was the basis on which they considered the market should ' - fixed. A syndicate of three local millers promptly purchased a line of 3000 sacks of Victorian wheat of this season at 2s 10id on board ship at Melbourne, which with duty and freight, cost the buyers 3s 7d at mill door. Victorian wheat is of superior quality to that of New Zealand, by reason of its greater hardness and dryness, which makes it' worth at least Id more per bushel to millers. The effect on the market was at once perceptible. Quotations for old Now Zealand wheat dropped from os 4d to os 2d per bushel on trucks, and in view of the lesson received it is hardly likely that. 3s 6d on trucks will lie asked for the new season's wheat. Whether any more Victorian wheat will he imported remains open to question, as it is considered that the present shipments have .served their purpose, in showing the producer that he ha : not the command of the market.
