A TRANSACTION CANCELLED

St. Petersburg, January 27. The Premier (M. Stolypin) has cancelled the contract given by General Gourko (Assistant-Minister of the Interior) to M. Lidval, a proprietor of gaming tables, to supply grain and flour to the people in the faminestricken districts.
General Gourko was entrusted last year with the placing of a contract for several million roubles' worth of grain and Hour for the relief (if the people in the faminestricken districts. Un the solicitation of a dressmaker he gave the contract to M- Lidval, and himself received a commission. M. Lidval passed the contract on to a subcontractor in return for a commission. This sub-contractor delivered very little grain, and getting- a large payment in advance' disappeared. The. Commission of Inquiry, which discovered these facts, has recommended the prosecution of Gourko.
