MR. JOHN BURNS.
CHARGED WITH CONTEMPT OF
COURT.
By Telegraph.— Association.—
London, January 27. The Divisional Court has refused the application of the proprietors of the Standard that ii should commit the Right Hon. John Burns for contempt of Court in having commented in a recent speech in Queen's Hall on an action commenced by twelve members of the London County Council against the Standard for denouncing the Council's extravagance and corruption.
Mr. Justice Darling remarked that Mr. Burns had made a violent speech, but it was not likely to adversely affect, the ease of the Standard, though his remarks had been extraordinarily indiscreet and improper, and showed very slight regard for the administration of justice.
