HOSPITAL AN CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
Tin-: ordinary meeting of the And.lami Hospital and Charitable Aid Hoard was held yesterday afternoon, being ;i(tended by the chairman (Mr. L. .1. Hawaii) and .Messrs. W. R. Bloomfield, .1. Fitt, W. .Jenkins, M. Casey. A. Bruce, and .1. R. Rutherford. Treatment of Consumptives: The chairman, referring to the resolution passed at last meeting, in which the Board decided to approach the Mayor to call a public meeting to consider what steps should be taken for making bettor provision for the treatment of consumptives, stated that he had seen Mr. Myers, who had decided to accede to the request. The date, however, was not. yet fixed. An Appeal: The secretary read a letter from Dr. Political h, which appeared in the Hkhai.ii on Saturday last, appealing for the sum of £15, with which to provide a man named Legge, at Oiiohunga, with an open air shelter, as he is suffering from consumption, and is living in the same house with his wife and family, to (heir danger. The relieving officer said for the nasi ];> months the Board had been allowing the Legge family 6s per week in house rent, and six ration- per day, equivalent to 10s (;,l petweek, so that in all they were ■ receiving lbs 6d weekly in assistance from the Board The secretary stated that the family in addition to the 16s b.l also received IXs 6d per week from an (hieliunga benefit society. The chairman thought that the Board should consider the advisability of contributing half the cost of the erection of a shelter if the other half was subscribed, as it was inadvisable that such a state of things should be allowed to continue. ft was finally decided to defer further consideration until it was ascertained what had been the response to the appeal. Senior Resident Medical Officer: Dr. Walsh, senior resident medical officer at tho hospital, wrote applying for leave of absence as from February 1, ami to be relieved of his duties as from March 1.
