A MYSTERIOUS DISAPPEARANCE.
THE CHIEF OFFICER OF THE
KANIERI MISSING.
The mysterious disappearance of Mr. T. Myers, chief officer of (lie Kanieri, trading between Auckland and Whangarei, was reported to the police on Saturday evening. The Kanieri arrived at Auckland from Wbangarei at half-past three on Saturday morning, and from inquiries made, it appears that the missing man was seen on board at that lime, and was spoken to by the Northern Company's watchman and a shipping clerk from Whangarei. The latter suggested to-. Myers that he (the clerk) should get some papers from him later on, and says that Myers replied that he "would not be there. When asked where lip was going, lie replied, " Never mind." This was the last that was seen of him, and inquiries were not instituted until some time later, those on the vessel being miller the impression that Myers had gone home, while his wife, who lives in Franklin Road, tnought that ho had gone upon another trip. The missing man has been in ill-health for some considerable time. The second steward of the Whakatere states that he saw in old jacket floating about in the water near the vessel on Saturday afteruon.
