ANNIVERSARY REGATTA.

A CAPITAL DAY'S SPORT PROMISED.

The annual regatta, in commemoration of the 6Tih anniversary of the foundation of the colony, will be. held in the Waitemata Harbour on Tuesday next. The flagship will be the Huddart-Parker steamer Victoria, which has l>een kindly placed at the disposal of the committee, through the kind offices of Messrs. L. L). Nathan and Co., Limited, the local agents for the line. The programme comprises 22 sailing, rowing, and motor bout events, besides a number of side shows. The race for trading vessels of 20 tons and upwards, which will !>e sailed round Tiritiri, gives promise of a line race, there being five boats entered, all of which will .'tart. In the open handicap yacht race there are six entries, and all will probably compete. The cruising yacht race will also bo interesting, there being seven entries. In all races for the smaller sailing boats there are good entries, and ex-cellent-sport is anticipated. There are good entries for rhe gig rowing races, which have been replaced on the programme, after having been allowed to lapse, for the pa-t year or two. 'Perhaps the most interesting rowing event of the day will l>e the gig race for the count clubs, for which there arc four entries. The;-, are three events for motor boat.-, one for speed boat*, one for boats seven knots and over, and one for boats under seven knots, for all of which there

are fair entries. The committer of the regatta met yesterday afternoon, when Mr. T. T. Masetield presided. It was-reported that the funds for carrying out the regatta were somewhat short, and the cam asset's, were requested to make a special effort during the. next day or two to collect the necessary amount, so that all tile, prize money might be paid in full. The yacht Ngatira, which had entered for the cruisers' yacht race, was changed to compete in tho first-class yacht race. The entry of the Ida for the same race,- and that of the Fiona for the 16ft open boat race, being late, were declined. Mr. K. Ji. Spinks was appointed to seal down the engines of tie;., auxiliary boats in thy trading vessels' race.
