THE PERCIVAL CASE.
EXTRADITION REFUSED.
By Telegraph.—Press Association.Copyright.
London, January 17. The Divisional Court has discharged the magistrate's order for the extradition of A. P. Percival, formerly treasurer of Trinity College, Melbourne, on the charge of embezzling the college funds. The ground of the refusal of extradition is that the evidence was insufficient to show that the offence was punishable in Victoria with a year's imprisonment.
Percival absconded some years ago and it was found that he had been making use of a considerable amount of the funds of the college. Severe, retrenchment on the part of the officials was found necessary, and the professors submitted to reductions in salary. The extradition proceedings have been before the Courts at Home for some months.
