DISCHARGED PRISONERS" AID SOCIETY.
The quarterly meeting of the Discharged Prisoners' Aid Society was held on Friday at the Church of England offices, Mr. \V. Brakcnrig in the chair. The members present gave details of prisoners who had received assistance, and arrangements were mado for helping others. The Habitual Criminals and Offenders Act evoked considerable discussion, and on the proposal of Mr. F. 6. Ewingfcon, seconded by Mr. D. Macpherson, it was resolved to write to the Hon. the Minister for Justice promising the hearty co-operation of the present gaol visitors in any well-considered plan for effecting the reformation of those brought under the provisions of the Act. The following contributions have been received since the last meeting by the hon. secretary, the Rev. Ed. C. Budd:—R. Leslie, £1; X.Y.Z., 6s; Wade Sunday-school, £1; A. Ewen, £1; F. Jones, 10s; J. W. Blackwell, ss; F. C. Long, ss. MANUKAU METHODIST CHURCH. The quarterly meeting of the Manukau Methodist Church was held at Mangere on Wednesday last. Messrs. J. H. Douglass and S. Atkinson were re-elected circuit stewards for the ensuing year. Mr. H. .1. Davies was appointed circuit representative to the conference to be held at Ohristehurch in March. The Rev. Robert Taylor, of the Thames circuit, wrote stating that ho had much pleasure in accepting the circuit's invitation to become its superintendent, and hoped the conference would ratify the appointment. Arrangements were mado to hold the harvest festival in March at Otaliuhu, when special thanksgiving offerings will be invited, in lieu of a gift auction, by which means it is hoped to liquidate the circuit debt. The thanks of the meeting were given to the Rev. W. J. Watkin, resident supernumerary minister, and to the local preachers for their pulpit services during the year, also to the circuit stewards.
