I [BY lELEGRVPH.—I'RESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Friday. Mrs. W. Johnson, a very old resident of Wellington, died to-day. Deceased ari rived in Auckland with her husband in the ship Egmont in 1854, and shortly afterwards removed to Wellington, where, with the exception of a short interval spent at Palmerston North, she remained until her death. In the early days of the city she took a prominent part "in various social movements and temperance and church work. An inquiry was held to-day by Dr. McArthur, S.M., and two assessors into the "sagging'' of the crowns of the furnaces to the boilers on the Blackball Coal Company's steamer l'etone at Groymouth on September 14. The Court found that the mishap was not caused by any fault in the machinery of the vessel, nor was it duo to 1 any negligence on the part of anyone. So - order was made. It was stated that the . damage would cost £850 to repair. Gisuorne, Friday. l At a meeting in connection with the P Nicolas relief fund it was reported that £1039 had been collected. It is proposed to', 1 put the money- in the Public Trust Office, ' so as to provide an income of £125 per annum to the family for ten years.
