' ; Kuianul (October 6): The drive 'on the leader in the north crostcut at the battery ' level has been extended loft for the week in a splendid - channel of country. . The,; leader is now. about , 12in wide in'the back of the drive, and appears to lie improving as we advance. The walls are more defined and the leader is composed of cleaner quartz, some of which locks very promts- ' ing for gold. No. s.stone on the shaft' reef has J been extended 17ft, making 37ft. and the reef ; maintains its width of about 12in, and is still i composed of brown quartz, in wfiich a- little , gold is Been occasionally. No. 7 stone on No. 1 leader has been extended Bft. and No. 8 stope J 9ft. This leader is rather split up in the south end, but improves a little in (he north end. The . water power should be on to the battery by the i end of next week. . . ■ ~-.-. Sunbeam (October.6): The rise going up over the back of the' low level to effect a connection , with'the tram-line" from the intermediate level has holed through., The winze being sunk on the ' reef from No. 1 level is now down 10ft on nice, kindly-looking ore. I have not- had any.' assays I made from here yet. but will have samples asi saved and post; results next mail. The tram-line' ; from the mill to the hopper is finished, and a . start will be made with the tram-line from the intermediate level' as soon as we get the frame work of the hopper in' position. This should be well in hand by Saturday next. v=.«.-'{ Kirikiri (October 5): The leading stope south of the main crosscut has been extended 14ft, making a total of 30ft. The reef is 2ft. thick and I have stripped it for 20ft, A few colours of gold are seen in the loose quartz that falls with the shooting. The country continues to be very favourable, for gold. I have No., 2 pass well under way and by the time the battery is ready the mine should j lie well opened up. I have started a leading stope off the main rise and colours of gold aro seen in the quartz. ■ I will strip the reef.hero until we get to the break. I think gold will bo got when we get to it, as it made it. in the top workings. May Queen Extended (October 8): Work.is going on in the lower level. Strong colours of gold are showing in the rise over Warne's winze. , The machinery is working first-class, and the water is very easily kept under. - ■ New Una (October 8) A boulder met with has made progress slow and only 16ft "nave been driven for the week, making 'the total distance from the entrance 116 ft. Fair sandstone country is to be seen on either side of the hard rock. Auckland (October 5): During the week the No." 4 level north has been extended 10ft; the 'cadetis still very small and poor. In the No. 3 level work has'been confined to making a connection with the winze sunk' from 'No, 2 level for veil- . tilation purposes. ' , •■ :■■ Trafalgar.'(October 6): During the past week the No. 2 level-has been extended 4ft. . The country for the last few days has been rather difficult to break, but as a better class of sandstone, is apparent- in- the face speedier progress should be made in the .future, and the. reef may be in hand shortly. The rise the hangingwall' branch of the Shamrock reef is now up 30ft above the back of the No. 2 level and the reef taken down for that distance. The reef in the rise averages 9iii width and the quartz is we'll mineralised andof a good description for gold, being evidently on the improve. -.-'' '"'-'' \ Victoria (October 6): Driving at No. 4 level crosscut is being continued, with no material change to report, .the country penetrated being a good firm class of sandstone, intermixed with mineral and silica veins. We have not- met with any quartz bodies since cutting through the I2in leader last week. Driving on the hangingwall of No. 6 reef seaward is proceeding, .and early in the week we.intersected some small leaders, which formed a junction with the leaders from the hangingwall of the No. 6 reef. In order to ascertain whether the leaders are a portion of the No. 7 reef, I have cut into the right-hand side of the drive and find ribs of quartz varying from 4in to lain in thickness, with hands of Fandstone between for about, 9ft in width. Possibly this may prove .to be the No. 7 reef, but 1 will drive in a few more feet to decide the point. The quartz coming to hand contains bright minerals, intermixed with, silica. Rising and stopillg operations are in progress on the Victoria reef at No. ■ 3 level. The reef at present averages about.' 3ft in thickness and is encased in a good class of sandstone country. -'-We have a trial parcel . of between 30 and;"4o. loads of quartz from here and will start treating it next Tuesday. Rising Sun '(October 6): During the week the extension of the northern drive on the hangingwall reef has been continued. The country penetrated is an excellent class of white sandstone and much, better progress is being made, 63ft having been driven since starting. - The 'reef is a solid body of ore, 3ft wide, has a promising appear- , ance, and far better prospects are being obtained; , The ore is being saved, for treatment, and I have 1 no doubt it is highly payable. The drive from > the bottom-of'the winze is in a distance of 22ft. [ The country penetrated is a firm sandstone, with numerous quartz stringers running through it. , There are signs of better country "coming in. No . quartz has been broken here this week. Waihi Discovery (October 8); No. 1 crosscut lias ; been extended 12ft'for the week ending October 6. A very decided change came in on Friday night, when a very heavy flow of water was struck, and the country changed to almost picking ground. There is no quartz showing,' but' 1 am certain the reef is not far ahead. ~»-•■ xii». Auckland Stock Exchange .will be closed, M today (Labour Day). , ',
