VOCAL AND INSTRUMENTAL CONTEST?
The Foresters' Hall, Newton, was crowded last evening, the occasion being the holding of vocal and instrumental contests in connectipn" with the Auckland' Band of Hope Union. .It was the second night of .the contesta, which extend tip to and including Friday next. • The evening's items proved most interesting and enjoyable. A special feature, of last night's programme were the choir contests, in which the following took part.:—Church: of Christ,, West-street (con-' ductor, Mr. Falkner); Grafton Road Methodist (cosduotdr. Mr. Gatlaud); Eden "Tefraco Primitive Methodist (conductor, Mr. F. J. Mollard}..... The awards for ail of last night's contests will bo made to-night. Other contests that took place last.evening: wore: — Recitation. B division: Violet McKcnzie, Ivy Mollard, Annie Browne, Eva Richards. ' , Tho results of Monday, night's contest are as follows: Piano solos, class B: Gertrude Pr'ync, Howick and Pakuranga Band of Hope, first prize ■.Alex. , Thompson, Eden Terrace Band,of Hope, second prize. Piano duets: B—Myrtle Dean and Alex. Thomson, Eden Terrace" Band of Hope, 1; C—Dorothy Henderson and Nereida Moses, Tabernacle, 1. Reciting: B (males)— Coombcs, Ed-en Terrace, 2. Reciting: C. The programme for to-night includes vocal solos for males and females under 12, males over 16, duets, quartettes, and pronouncing bee (under 16), and reciting for females under 12. '" .
