POINT ELIZABETH SURVEY.

[by TELEGRAPH. —PRESS association.]

Gr.EiMorrii, Tuesday. A deputation from the Borough Council waited on the Harbour Board this afternoon regarding the action of the Government in stopping the survey at Point Elizabeth. A resolution was passed expressing its surprise and disappointment at the proposed stoppage of the survey, and strongly urging on the Government the advisability of immediately completing the survey, and thereby settling definitely whether the necessary works and improvements to give required accommodation should be carried out by extending the facilities at Greymouth, or whether a new harbour should be constructed at Point Elizabeth. It was stated that if something was not soon decided there would be big trouble. Mr. Guinness, in reply to the Mayor, stated that Ministers are against spending the large amount which is required to complete the survey. They think Mr. Napier Bell's report "on the proposal may render further expenditure unnecessary.
