THE LATE CAPTAIN STREA TER.

Thk funeral of the late Captain Strcater took place yesterday. The cortege, which was a very long one, and included 27 carriages, two brakes of wharf-labourers, and several cabs, left the residence at two p.m. and proceeded to Purewa. The burial service was read by the Rev. W. B. Gillam, of St. Matthew's. The principal mourners were Captain John Nearing, and Messrs. Capperton, Russell, Ewing, Cadness, and Whyte. The commercial and shipping community was largely .represented, and amongst the mourners were Mr. Heather, ol Heather,' Robeiton, and Co., representing the Tyser line of steamships; Mr. Houghton, representing the New Zealand Shipping Company; Mr. Cerutty, Huddart-Farkci-Line; Mr. T. Birch and Mr. J. Taylor, Union Steam Shi]) Company; Messrs. G. Dunnet and B. A. Sproul, Oceanic Steamship Company; Mr. J. Patterson, representing A. Nathan, Federal Line; Messrs. A. Alison and F. Hushell. Dovouport Steam Ferry Company; and Captain Saiuty, representing the Auckland Harbour Board. Messages of sympathy have been received by Mrs. Streater from all parts of the colony. • v
