LAWN TENNIS.

Great interest has been aroused among lady lawn tennis players of England over the suggestion that a representative ladies' team should visit America next season to compete for the trophy offered by Mrs. Astor. On all sides tho idea has been enthusiastically received (says the Daily Mail), and the general opinion was that the institution of a Ladies' Davis Cup would prove immensely popular on both sides of tho Atlantic. Mrs. Hillyard, the most influential lady player in the country and a past champion, assured tho Daily Mail representative that there ought not to bo any difficulty in getting together a representative team. "Mrs. Jacob Astor," said Mrs. Hillyavd, "is just the right kind of American lady to interest herself in an international contest. She has great social influence, and I have no doubt her sympathies would guarantee the popular success of the tour."
