The local lodge of the Independent Order of Good Templars held their fortnightly meeting on Friday night. After routine business and the admission of new members the meeting was opened to the public, and an enjoyable programme was gone through; the Misses Andrew and Simpson each contributing pianoforte solos. Readings "were given by >Jrs. Montgomery, Miss Macky, and by Messrs. Havill and Morris; vocal solos by Miss Ilannigan, Messrs. W. and G. Galloway, Crow, and Baker. Messrs. O'Hara and Burrows gave recitation*. During an interval the Rev. A. Donll gave a short address in which ho referred to the campaign fund collection, and the necessity for being prepared when the moment for action arrived. 'The last meeting of'the Mutual "Improvement Association was one of the most interesting this session. The programme consisted of reading the society's journal edited by Mr. E. West. A number of papers had been contributed by members and friends. The grounds of the bowling and tennis club are being put into good order for the coming season. A lot of levelling and filling up is being done to form a tennis court, and flower beds arc being laid out in convenient places. The turf on the bowling green is showin- good results for the care and labour expended upon it.
