The Registrar-General's report on the vital statistics of the principal towns of New Zea-land--during the month of May is as follows:— Auckland : Population, 37,740 ; total births, 92; total deaths, 52:" proportion of deaths to 1000 of population, 1.38. Birkenhead: 1295, 2, 1, 0.77. Dovonpori : 5107, 10. 2, 0.6'.). Newmarket.: 23-12: 4. 3, 1.28. Grey Lynn: 5883, 16, 2, '0.34. Paruell: 5273, 8, 1, 0.19. Total "Auckland and- suburban boroughs: 57.645, 132, 61. 1.06. Wellington and suburbs: 62,844, 160, 61, 0.97. Christ-; . church and suburbs: 52,812, 135. 38, 0.72. Dtmedin and suburbs: 56,024, 126, 47, 0.84. Thames: 3750. 12. 3. 0.80. Now Plymouth: 5147, 27, 1, 0.19. .Napier: 9473, 20. 7, 0.74. Of the total deaths males contributed 124 and females 83. Fifty-nine of the deaths were of children under five years of age, and 49 of those, were under one year of age.
