PROPOSED CREMATORIUM FOR WELLINGTON
[by TKLEORAI'H.— ASSOCIATION.]/
Wellington, Thursday. A movement is on foot for the erection of a crematorium at Wellington, and lists have been sent, to several of the most prominent public men in Wellington, with a view to raising funds for the purpose. The lists are accompanied by a circular on the subject i of cremation, and bear the names of the Mayor (as chairman) and the town clerk v (as treasurer). The movement was in reality started several years ago, and has of late assumed a livelier phase owing to the presence in Wellington of a lady who lias interested herself for a considerable time past in this subject. Miss Studholme, daughter of the late Mr. John Studholme, of South Canterbury, has been in England for some years studying hygiene under the auspices of the National Health Society, and now. having returned to New Zealand for the benefit of her health, she is endeavouring to forward the idea of establishing crematoria in the colony.
