LORD SELBORNE'S APPEAL.

The High Commissioner (Lord Selborne),- speaking at a luncheon at Pietersburg yesterday, appealed to the Boers to prove that they knew how to bear prosperity as well as adversity. He reminded them of their declaration that if people were worth having they were worth trusting. The King had shown he trusted them to the fullest extent by granting responsible government to the Transvaal and the Orange Colony.

DEATH OF LADY CBRZON.

By Telegraph.—Press Association.— (Received July 19, 10.58 p.m.) London, July 19. Lady Curzon, of Kedleston is dead.

In 1904- Lord Curzon visited England, prior to entering upon his extended term as Viceroy of India. When lie was duo to leave for India in September his wife became"seriously ill of peritonitis, and was not able to join him in Calcutta for some months. She was the daughter of the late Mr. L. 7. Lciter, of Chicago, and married Lord Curzon in 1895, and her family consists of three daughters, the youngest born in 1901.
