Although the weather could hardly have been move unfavourable, the attendance to witness the Wednesday Union matches at Alexandra Park was above the average. Good football under the weather conditions was a matter of impossibility, but, nevertheless, the games were moat interest-' ing Butchers v. Civil Servants: The match between the Butchers and Post, Telegraph, and Railway team* occupied No. 1 ground, and the former, with the wind behind him, at once commenced an attack, their dashing forwards taking the ball into the opposing team's 25. Their efforts were very soon rewarded, Blidgens scoring 11 trv, which was not converted. From the kick-out the Civil Servants held their own for a little while, but the Butchers then again became aggressive, and Purdy next scored, the result of a brilliant run. The kick at goal again failed. But little relief was afforded the Civil Servants, the Butchers once again taking charge almost immediately after the kick-out, and very soon King crossed the 'hie. The kick once more failed, and the score at half-time stood: Butchers 9, Pan, Telegraph, and Railway nil. In the second spell the Butchers were on the defence, their opponents—with the wind and driving rain behjnd them—almost immediately initiating an attack 011 the opposing line. Their efforts were, however, nullified by the good defence shown by,Purdy. King, and Cox. Throughout the spell the Butchers were on the defensive, but the score remained unaltered, and the game closed without alteration to the score. .' Mi. Jaggs made an efficient referee.
