FARMERS' UNION CONFERENCE.
[BY TELEGRAPH.— ASSOCUTIO.V.] Pahiatua, Wednesday. > ; The Wellington Provincial Conference of the ; ■ New Zealand Farmers' Union met this morning. The treasurer's and provincial or- x ganisers' reports were taken in committee and adopted. • Mr. Cooper nominated Mr. J. G.'.Wilson for the position of president. Mr. Moore seconded the motion, and iii doing so said the two greatest men in New Zealand were a j the Premier and Mr. Wilson. Mr. -.Wilson : ; was elected amidst loud . applauce. - Mr. ,; Cooper was elected vice-president. The Executive Committee was elected as follows: — West Coast: Mr. Kerat, Wanganui; Mr. Richards, Te Horo; Mr. Guthrie, llangi-. wahia; Captain Hewitt, Palmerston North; : Messrs. Birch and Newman, Marten; Mr. McPernai, Waituna West; Mr. Wilson, . Bulls; Mr. Stubbs, Palmerston North. East Coast: Mr. Perry, Masterton ; Mr. Smith, Pahfatua: Mr. Bidwell, Featherston; Mr. McFarlane, Konini; Mr. Kevins,Tenui; Mr. Mathieson, Kketahuna; Mr. Cooper, Ihuraua Valley. ' • The following resolutions. carried:— "That the Government be asked to grant ? assisted immigration to female domestic ser vants of good character and of white na- . tionality." That the Government be asked to make no appointments as stock inspectors except, where candidates had passed such examination in veterinary subjects as Mr. Gilruth recommended." ■. ';''., " That the mortgage and indemnity tax is irritating and unnecessary, and that the Government be asked to amend the law so that, those who insure their workers once against accidents are not compelled to pay double tax; that the question of accident insurance be referred, with the mortgage and indemnity tax, to t sub-committe- appointed to deal with such matters, which will make recommendations concerning the subjects submitted to it." "That branches be recommended to keep * lilt of stock and produce for sale." That the conference bring pressure t< bear upon the Government that the hospital and charitable aid votes bo made mor« equitable throughout the colony." v. "That public recognition of oui depend- / ence on Almighty God for successful result* from out labours is essential to the success '-.''■-.. of a farmers' union." " "That the conference urge directors of th« Farmers' Union Mutual Insurance Company to raise, the limit of the risks; that the mutual insurance companies of the North Island should combine and work l'rorr one centre." " . Messrs. Cooper, McLennan, and Peat wet* elected to represent the Wellington provinoe at the annual Colonial Conference. The conference closed to-night.
