The contents of 70 per cent, of the safes opened in San- Francisco were found to be ashes. The Commercial Union Insurance Company estimates the losses of British companies at about six millions sterling. The English offices will pay only their legal liabilities. America has taken £1,893,000 from London since the earthquake, and a further million has been engaged from France. THE SAN FRANCISCO MAIL.
