LABOUR COUNCIL CONFERENCE.
QUESTIONS TO BE CONSIDERED.
At last nights meeting of the Auckland Trades and Labour Council, the questions to be discussed at the annual Labour Conference, to be held at Christchurch at Easter, were decided upon. They were as follows: — That the Government be asked to impose an export duty on all unsorted gums over the value of £40 per ton. Tb»t the Government be urged to increase the poll-tax on Chinese immigrants to not less than £200 per head. That the attention of the Government be drawn to the delay in the cstablisment of Workmen's Homes throughout the colony. That the Government be urged to bo amend the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, that the protection of the lock-out clause can be extended to cover workers who may be engaged in forming an industrial union. That the Workers' Compensation Act be amended by the deletion of the clause providing for exemption of certain industries from the benefits of that Act; failing that, a secret ballot be provided for. , That the principle affirmed last conference, re total disablement, under the Workers' Compensation Act, be reaffirmed by the Christchurch Conference of 1906, and that the name of the trade or calling be furnished.
That the conference be requested to support a resolution of this Council, urging the Government to get expert advice on the'.Morgan block system.
That the Premier be asked to introduce a Bill to amend the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, providing lor statutory preference to unionists.
That the tariff be revised this session, so as to provide an increase ol duly on all book-binding manufactured parts.
That the tariff be revised this session, so as to provide a greater encouragement to ail articles manufactured in the colony.
That the conference be asked to reaffirm taxing on unimproved values.
