THE LABOUR PARTY.
By Telegraph—Press Association.— (Received February 7, 11.5 p.m.)
London, February 7. The Bishop of Birmingham (Dr. Gore), in an address to the London Christian Social Union yesterday, said he gladly welcomed the more adequate representation of labour in Parliament. He was confident, no matter what mistakes, the Labour members might make, that the only way to cause the nation to properly appreciate the social evils which all desire to see remedied, was to have them .stated in Parliament by representatives of the workers.
The Bishop of Birmingham is one of the most influential leaders of the High Church social reformers. He is profoundly impressed with the hardships of the poor, and has been an active worker against sweating in every form. He is a member of the Christian Social Union, an organisation for the study of social and labour questions, which has branches in nearly every part of the British Empire.
