SCHOOL INSPECTORS.
MR, MULGAN'S RESIGNATION.
APPOINTMENT OF MR. R. D.
STEWART.
Tin; resignation of Mr. E. K. Mulgan, one of the inspectors under the Auckland Education Board, who has accepted a position tinder tin< North Canterbury Board, was received at yesterday's meeting of the Auckland Board, and was accepted with regret, Several members (including Mr. S. Luke, the chairman), spoke in high praise of Mr. Uu'gan's *>ervices in the past. Mr. Luke s<>id they had been most valuable, and upon his suggestion it was decided to congratulate Mr. Mulgan on his appointment.
A letter was received from Mr. D. Petrie, M.A., chief inspector to the Board, asking that someone be appointed in Mr. Mtdgans place, and suggesting that an extra inspector be obtained. Mr. G. L. l'eacocke moved " That Mr. Ralph D. Stewart, lute headmaster of the Wellesleystreet school, bo appointed, at a salary of £400 per annum." Mr. Peacock© said he mentioned £400 instead of £550, which had been paid to an inspector when appointed in the past, because he considered that the whole standard of inspectors' salaries should be raised. In some cases, they found men inspecting schools where the headmasters were receiving more than the inspectors. The chairman and other members of the Board supported Mr. Peacocke's motion, several saying that they considered that something should be done for Mr. Stewart, in consequence of the closing of his school, and that he was a thoroughly good man, well qualified for the position. Mr. Peacocke''a motion was carried. It was also decided to invite applications for another inspector.
