FOOTBALL.
Correspondence is now passing between the New Zealand and Auckland Rugby Unions relative to the- arrangement of a. fitting reception- to the New Zealand footballers now on their way to the colony from England via America. The "All Blacks" will reach Auckland by the San Francisco mail steamer due here- on Monday, March 5, and the Auckland Union has suggested to the governing body that a ferry steamer be chartered to go out and meet the mail boat in the stream and land the footballers at the ferry tee, thus doing away with the inconvenience and crowding that might be experienced should they come alongside the. Queen-street Wharf in the mail bout. The players will then be driven to either the Domain or the Metropolitan Grounds, where they will be officially welcomed. It is also probable that a night function will be arranged for, and efforts are to be made to secure the presence at the official reception of His Excellency the Governor (Lord Plunket) and the Premier.
