CRICKET.

The Melbourne cricketers, who have been spending a day or two doing the sights at Rotorua, return to Auckland to-morrow afternoon. On Friday at the Domain Cricket Ground the visitors will commence the first match of the New Zealand tour against the Auckland representative eleven. Play starts at two o'clock on Friday, and the match will be continued on Saturday and Monday.

In inter-State cricket Clem Hill has had 43 innings against New South Wales, in 13 of which he fell to the bowling of \V. P. Howell, who hit his tickets six times, had him caught by Kelly at the wickets four times, stumped once, and caught and bowled twice. As a rule Howell bowled on or just outside Hill's off stump, and generally got him with the faster ball. T. MeKibbin disposed of him live times, L. W. Pve four, A. Mcßeth and M. A. Noble thrice each, A. Cotter, A. J. Hopkins, F. Johnson, and .1. Marsh twice each, and C. T. B. Turner, 11. Donnan ,and G. L. Garnsey once each. J. T. Tyldesley, the groat Lancashire batsman, will be given a big benefit next season in England, as he will secure the proceeds of the Yorkshire-Lancashire, match. When Hirst had his benefit in 1904 he had a similar game, and the net proceeds wore £3703 2s sd. As many as 78,792 persons watched the play; and, in addition to the gate money, subscriptions amounting to £1442 were received. Lancashire has a very high opinion of Tyldesley, who has been a great performer. In eleven seasons he has scored 16,502 runs for the county club, giving him an average of 42.44. It is, however, not anticipated that Tyldesley will have a better benefit than Hirst did, as the latter s is easily the record. KNIGHT-JEFFRIES COMPANY V. GEO. COURT'S CRICKET CLUB. More than the usual amount of interest is being taken in the above match, to be played on the Domain, commencing at half-past one p.m. to-day, in view of the fact that the public will have an opportunity of seeing the popular theatricals in the novel roles of exponents of cricket. The following are the teams:Geo. Court's: Smyth, Ellis, Durham, Garner, Clark, Quinlan, Elliott, Sarah, Smith, and Frost (2). Knight-Jeffries: K. Ballantvne, C. Brown, N. Latham, H. Milne, N.
