WOOL SALES.

RISE IN PRICES AT DUNEDIN.

[BY. TELEGRAM. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.]

Dcnedix, Tuesday. TH>:itE'is a general expression of opinion that to-day's wool sale was the best held in the colony'so far this season. The bales catalogued numbered 8534, the attendance of buyers was large, and competition, though somewhat irregular, was brisk for all classes of fleece wool. Prices for halfbreds and crossbreds of all descriptions were from par to a halfpenny higher than last 'sale, while merino showed a rise in many cases of a penny. Pieces and bellies were easier. Telford's Waiwera clip of super, combing merino realised 13^d ; first combing, merino, 12Jd and 12£ d; second combing ; pieces and necks, 10|d ; bellies, 9|d. Fleming's Kaihikie merino brought 13^d ; quarterbred, 14d ; and half-bred, 13^d. [BX TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESI'OXDEXT.] Dr/NEDix, Tuesday. The third wool sale of the season was held at Dunedin to-day. . It attracted a deal of interest. The total offerings amounted to 8534 bales. There was some excitement at the last sale, when the record price of 14-jd was reached, and here and there the juDilant farmer made himself obvious. The second sale is the big sale, and at it the highest-grade wools are offered consequently it as not expected that anything like 14£ d would be reached to-day, but that figure was touched three times during the afternoon, and on the whole prices to-day were relatively higher than those realised at the second "auction, and all round prices were more uniform.

Mr. Johnstone, of Wright, Stevenson, and Co., interviewed, said that so far as his firm was concerned this was the most consistently good sale over all grades of wool that he had known in .30 years' experience here. There had been some very handsome returns. For instance, Moa Flat halfbreu ewes wool brought 13£ d, the highest price on the firm's catalogue. For halfbred wool from Argyle Station 13d was realised and Greenvale Station halfbred reached the same figure. Several other choice lots of halfbred from the clips of well-known sheepbreeders in the province brought from 12d toT3d. Also in merino wool, for which, as for other classes, there was warm competition, the Argyle Station clip realised 12|d. First pieces merino, from Mtoa Flat, were sold up to lid, and first halfbred pieces from .this clip and from that of Ashley Downs reached I'J.fd. There was a keener demand for merinos than at the preceding sale, probably owing to reports from Home showing that this description of wool was firming. The result of tho sale as a whole must be exceedingly gratifying to the growers. GISBORNE WOOL SALES. [by telegraph.—press ASSOCIATION".] v Gisborne, Tuesday. , At the wool sales fleece wool, compared with last sales, brought about the same figure: The offering was mostly of rough wool, which sold at from B£d to B|d; cleaner sorts realised up to 9Jd; good crutchings, to 6d; bellies and pieces, from sid to 7d Locks were in strong demand, and made from 4d to sid.
