' " CAMBRIDGE. -jf : A movement is on toot in Cambridge to form a limited liability company to run a hotel on the Gothenburg system. Already a substantial sum lias been subscribed locally.

A young men's society lias been formed in connection with Trinity Presbyterian Church, with Mr. A. McNeish as leader and Mr. it. Atkinson lion, secretary. Twenty members were enrolled tor a commencement.

As the outcome of a resolution passed by the Fukekura Road Board at its last meeting, Inspector Bailey visited Cambridge West the other day in connection with the eradication of noxious weeds, which have been spreading rapidly. Not a little feeling has been aroused here bv the announcement that a movement is on foot by the Borough Council to have the salevards removed from the centre of the town "to a site near the show ground, about a mile away. It is felt by a section of the tradespeople that loss of business will result from such a step, while others favour the removal of the salevards on sanitary grounds. The Mayor has stated that he would agree to a vote of the inhabitants being taken on the question. High level bridge matters are again assuming practical shape, and a special meeting of the Borough Council to consider important matters therewith has been called. A meeting of the general committee of the Waikato Central Agricultural and Tastoral Association was held on Saturday afternoon, there being present: Messrs. John Fisher (president), .1. Hooker, J. Anderson, C. Lake, ,1. H. Wallace. W. F. Dixon, A. W. (lane, A. L. Souter, and J. C. Potts. Mr. J. Richards was elected a member of the association. It was agreed to reply to a letter from Mr. .T. C. Allen that nil stock "sent to the show will be unloaded, paddocked, and trucked by the committee free of charge. One guinea was donated to the prize fund of the Ohinemuri Agricultural and Horticultural Society. Mr. F. J. Maifells having donated a case of powder sheep dip and: a case of santovin, it was decided that the former be awarded in the class for pen of 10 sheep under 33 months and the latter as a points prize in the fat sheep class. The appointment of stewards was left to the executive. It was agreed that a marquee be secured for the produce and horticultural class. Messrs. R. Fisher and J. 11. Scott were appointed a committee tor the judging classes. HAMILTON. The St. Andrew's Young Men's Class reassembled on Sunday morning after the holidays. There was a very full attendance. In the afternoon the, new claas room was formally opened. Mr. 1. Primrose occupied the chair, and short addresses were given by Messrs. Goodfcllow, MeDiarmid, H. Roche, and the Rev. E. Adams. A number of musical items were rendered by the choir, Miss Mulling, and Mr. Adams. It is proposed to start a junior class for those who are too old for the Sunday-school and too young for the senior class. PAEROA. THK No. 1 Ohinemuri Rifles, under Lieutenant Nathan, are at present in camp. LieutenantColonel Porritt is also in camp with the corps. On Sunday morning a church parade was held to St. Mary's Church, those taking part being the Hauraki Battalion Band, No. 1 Thames Rifles, No. 1 Ohinemuri Rifles, and Paeroa School Cadets. At the church it powerful sermon was preached by the Very Rev. Dean Hackett. The Ohinemuri Rifles remain under canvas for a week. The special prizes at the Ohinemuri Agricultural and Horticultural Society's show last week were won as follows :—The society's prizes for most points in all sections. Mrs. Brabant; Mr. Poland's prize for most, points in cut flowers section. Miss McAndrew; Mr. Poland's prize for most points in garden produce sections, Mr. .1. A. Aljjie: Mr. Moss' prize for most points by married lady in cookery sections, Mrs. W. Grant; Mr. Moss' prize for most points by single lady in cookery sections, Miss Silcoct. PAI'AKURA. The Papaktna Presbyterian Sabbath School held its annual picnic on February 3 in the grounds of Mr G D. Smith, of Woodside. Refreshments were provided by the ladies of the congregation.
