AUCKLAND HARBOUR BOARD.

AN ordinary meeting of the Auckland Harbour 13oard was held yesterday afternoon, when there were present -. The Hon. K. Mitchelson (chairman), Messrs. R. Logan, jun., A. Keyes, J. M. Laxon, W. J. W. Philson, J. M. Mennie, and W. J. Napier.

Orakei Cattle Wharf: The Settlers' Steamship Company wrote with regard to the arrangements for landing cattle at Orakei Wharf, stating that a lot of stock was required to be landed there shortly, and suggesting that a floating stage might be placed between the wharf and the road. Mr. H. Munro Wilson, C.E., wrote stating that, in compliance with the wishes of the chairman of the Orakei Road Board and others interested, he had prepared a plan, showing what additions were required to make the Orakei Cattle Wharf usable for handling cattle. The works required were an extension of existing jetty bOft at shore end to join existing road, construction of cattle yards, 66ft square, divided into four separate pens, with interchangeable gates and ramps, or low level gangway, at the land side. The\ %harbour engineer attached a memo, to this communication, stating he had no estimate of cost, and Mr. Wilson asked the Board to prepare that. Approximately the cost was estimated at £620. On the motion of the chairman the communications were referred to the Works and Tariff Committee.

Bathing Tent,: The town clerk (Auckland) forwarded a copy of a letter received at last City Council meeting, suggesting the erection of a simple form of bathing shed, such as temporary screens, on the harbour beaches, for the use of bathers. As the jurisdiction of the Council did not extend below high water mark, the subject of bathing in the harbour was thought to be one for the Board. The correspondence was referred to the Works and Tariff Committee.

Explosives Hulk: In accordance with the harbourmaster's suggestion, it was decided to dock the explosives hulk for general repairs. Miscellaneous: The Board resolved to have the beacons at Henderson's Creek replaced, and to take steps to ascertain the names of persons damaging beacons. Consideration of the question of overtime for dock-keepers was deferred. A request from the Ferry Board for extensions to Birkenhead and Northcote Wharves was referred to the Works and Tariff Committee. Accounts totalling £2854 18s Id (including £2027 9s lOd, arbitrator's award in the Tuck contract) were passed for payment.
