Wellington, Monday. The Supreme Court criminal sessions were opened to-day before the Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout). Only six persons were charged, and there, were five offences charged against them. Three of these, His Honor said in his charge to the grand jury. were of a sexual character. He had thought thai; after what had taken place during (he past year they would not have been troubled with this sort of case, but unfortunately this ■was not so.
That school gardens are a. step in the right direction is illustrated by the following extract from a letter recently received from a resident at Kimbolton, near Feeding. He says: One man here, who has a large family, told me that lie had no trouble about growing vegetables now., as most of the children took a great interest in their gardens at home and kept them very well, since they had had gardens at the t«chool, The new classes comprise those for tin; heist collection of farm roots. In consist of four specimens of as many different kinds as possible of the following: - Mangolds, swedes, turnips, carrot.*, kohl rabi, parsnips, cabbages, heel, and 71b of each variety of potato. The prizes to be awarded are ss, 3s. ami 2s. Other classes arc cabbage.-,, carrot.", kohl rabi, mangolds, tour specimen* of each. it should l)e noted thai the prize money will have to bo actually spent/ on th« whining garden,
