THE KAPANUI DISASTER.
CHARGE OF MANSLAUGHTER. Captain Southoate, master of the Kapanui, which was run clown in the harbour on the night of December 23, appeared before Messrs, J. C. Coleman and W. H. Cooper, justices of the peace, at the Police Court yesterday morning, on a charge of manslaughter in connection with the deaths of three of the victims whoso bodies were recovered. The Court was crowded SubInspector Black appeared for the prosecution, and Mr. J. C. Martin for the accused. Sub-Inspector Black asked for a remand until Friday iuxt.
Mr. Martin raising no objection, the application was granted, and the accused was released on his former badl—two sureties of £50 each, and himself in £100.
