CHRISTCHURCH EXHIBITION.
THE DAMAGE BY THE CYCLONE.
[BY TELEGRAPH.PRESS ASSOCIATION.]
Christchurch, Wednesday. The Buildinir Committee of the New Zealand International Exhibition met this morning to further consider the damage which the buildings suffered by the cyclone on Sunday. An independent estimate of the damage suffered by the contractors was obtained and laid before the meeting. This showed that an amount of £709 would cover the losses suffered' by Messrs. Jamieson Bros. The committee was not called upon to take any action in reference to the matter, the estimate being simply obtained to fix the position of the Government in view, of any proceedings that may be taken by the contractors to have their losses made good. Instructions were issued to proceed with the work of constructing the building as speedily as possible. The necessary timber will come to hand in a few days.
