ALLEGED THEFT OF JEWELLERY.
• YOUNG MAN AKRE&TED AT _ WAIHI. [BY TELEGRAPH.OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Waihi, Thursday. A young man named Norman Henry Allison' was attested .y- sterJay % afternoon on a charge of theft o'a geld chain and goldmounted kauri gum pendant, valued at £10, the property of George Lowe. The accused was brought before Mr. H. P. Barry, J.P., this morning, and charged with the offence. Sergeant Sheehan, who asked for a remand, stated that he had arrested the accused two hours after the theft had been reported to him. The articles had been stolen ! from Lowe's bedroom 'in the Bob Roy Hotel. The stolen goods were' recovered from an unoccupied dwelling on Broadway, .'where the accused, was seen. Other thefts of jewellery from the same hotel had been reported to him some days ago, and these had also been recovered at the same place. The latter articles of jewellery were valued iiifc £10, and were the property of three other boarders. The accused objected to any remamd, as he said he could clear himself at once." The application for a remand was granted, bail being allowed, himself in £50, and two sureties of £50 each.
