The Sultan has accepted fully the terms of the Powers. The naval demonstration that, has now come to an end has proceeded with great deliberation. Tho Sultan of Turkey has been given ample time for thinking the matter out. The combined squadronsßritish, French, Austrian, and Italianleft the Piraeus on November 23, and five days later it was reported that they had seized the island of Mitylene. The Sultan then offered a compromise, which was rejected. _ On December 5 it was reported that the island of Lenmos had been seized. The next day the report caino that as ill-, squadrons were about, to seize (ho island of Tonodos, only 12 miles from tho Dardanelles, tho Sultan had accepted the terms of the Powers with modifications. Apparently these modifications have been withdrawn. Germany did not take part in these operations, " boeaitse she had no warship in the Mediterranean." After the seizure of the islands it was reported that tho German Ambassador at Constantinople had advised the Sultan to accede to the demands of the. Powers. Not a shot has been fired during the whole affair.
